Tasks
Landesmusikakademie Berlin (founded 1995) supports amateur music in Berlin
with a colorful and diverse assortment of programs. It follows its tasks through
connecting, qualifying, inspiring people as well as assisting and supporting projects
in terms of continuing education, festivals, concerts, schoolprojects and services.
Topics covered range from popular music and music of other cultures all the way
to western classical music and contemporary music. The broad scope of what the
academy has to offer, including its recording studio, seminar spaces, halls, instruments
and media, is available for use to independent third parties as well.
Target Groups
The focus of Landesmusikakademie’s course offers is directed toward people
interested in music, from kindergarteners to senior citizens, from amateur to
professional musician, with a particular emphasis on leaders and mentor figures
within the field of music (e.g. educators as well as ensemble and choir directors).

FESTIVALS
"Musikfestival Klangwelten"
"Music Festival Worlds of Sound"
Amateur musicians and ensembles offer two musical weekends around singing and
instrumental playing, with all kinds of activities and concerts oriented towards children,
youth and families and a project week for elementary school students.

"Samba Syndrome"
A festival of European samba groups, with workshops, concerts, lectures on percussion,
dancing and Brazilian music connected to a family weekend around Brazilian

"ensembletreffen berlin"
A "treffen" ("meetup") for amateurs to foster a lively exchange of ideas. For people
of all ages, of all occupations, with all styles – and without the stress of competition.

CONCERTS AND PROJECTS
- about 140 concerts every year taking place in the three concert halls and in the lavish foyer
- 60 out of them commented for school classes and kindergarteners about instruments, popular music, worldmusic a.o.

"Styles & Skills – Berlin Band Award"
A competition of the best young bands out of berlin at the Kesselhaus in the
Kultur-brauerei ("Cultural Brewery"), Berlin-Prenzlauerberg, followed by a band
coaching.

LOCATION AND EQUIPMENT
Landesmusikakademie Berlin is located in FEZ-Berlin, Europe’s largest Child, Youth and Family Center in Wuhlheide park about 20 min. direction southeast away from the center of Berlin. www.fez-berlin.de
Spaces and instruments
Audio recordings in the studio, project days for school classes – independent parties
can use the academy’s infrastructure for audition rounds, courses and concerts.

Accommodation
Simple accommodation for groups of youth in a bungalow village (68 beds in 9
bungalows – only able to use during summer). A youth hostel is in the planning
stages as well, convenient hotels are located nearby.

Formal Organization
The Landesmusikakademie Berlin, along with Child, Youth and Family Center FEZBerlin,
is organized in the form of a non-profit subsidiary (an "mbH" company form),
with the sole shareholder being the Land of Berlin.
